How to Assemble Your Sukkah — Step-by-Step Guide

Every sukkah we sell goes up without tools — most first-timers finish in under an hour. Here's the step-by-step for each model, plus how to lay the schach and the mistakes to avoid.

Before you start

  • Pick a spot under open sky — no tree branches, roof overhangs or balconies above where the schach will sit (see our kosher sukkah guide).
  • Clear and roughly level the ground; leave about 2 ft of walking clearance on the entry side.
  • Unpack all boxes and lay the poles out by length — five minutes of sorting saves twenty of searching.
  • Build with two people if you can. One person can do it; two make it fast.
  • Put the schach on last, after the walls are standing.

EZ Build QUEEN & KING sukkah

  1. Sort the poles. Vertical (upright) poles and horizontal (crossbar) poles are different lengths — group them.
  2. Build the base frame. Connect the bottom horizontal poles to the corner uprights by hand — the fittings slide together, no tools.
  3. Raise the uprights and top frame. Attach the top horizontal poles to complete the box frame. On larger sizes, connect middle support uprights along the long walls.
  4. Hang the fabric walls. Wrap the two-tone fabric around the frame and fasten it. Position the clear windows (2 on the QUEEN, 3 on the KING) where you want light.
  5. Square it up. Check corners are square and poles fully seated before the schach goes on.
  6. Lay the schach — see below.

  1. Insert the horizontal poles into the vertical poles to form the frame.
  2. Set your size: press the metal tab on each telescoping pole and pull from opposite sides until it locks at the length you want. The included size table shows the settings for every size.
  3. Hang the main canvas, then attach the velcro extensions the size table calls for.
  4. Tie the 4 included strings for kashrus and stability, then lay the schach.

Sukkah On the Go (pop-up)

  1. Take it out of the carry bag and release the frame — it pops open on its own.
  2. Stand it under open sky and zip the door.
  3. Lay the included mehadrin bamboo mat on top and tie it down. Done — about 5 minutes.

Wooden Sukkah Panels

  1. Plan the layout: standard panels for the walls, one door panel, window panels where you want light.
  2. Stand the first corner — two panels braced against each other — then work around the perimeter, fastening panel to panel.
  3. Check the structure is plumb and rigid, then lay beams and schach across the top.

Laying the schach

  1. The walls must be fully standing first — schach goes on last.
  2. Roll the flat bamboo mats out across the roof beams, perpendicular to them.
  3. Tie the mats to the frame with the included kashrus strings so wind can't lift them. Use natural-fiber ties — that's what the included strings are for.
  4. Check coverage: the schach should give more shade than sun, with no gaps of 3 tefachim (~9–11 in) or more.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Building under a tree or overhang — anything over the schach can render it invalid. Check the sky first, not last.
  • Schach before walls — the halacha calls for walls first, roof last. It's also just easier.
  • Not tying down the mats — one gust and your schach is on the neighbor's lawn.
  • Forcing telescoping poles — press the tab fully before sliding; never hammer anything.
  • Waiting until Erev Yom Tov — many build right after Yom Kippur (Sept 21, 2026). Order by mid-September and you're relaxed.
